Commissions are always welcome at Nick Mathis Workshop. Each piece is made with the highest quality and attention to detail to ensure it will last for generations in a personal collection or professional exhibition. All requests from simple to detailed pieces are appreciated. Because of the attention put into each creation, commissions can take several months to over a year to create.
Each piece begins with a conversation to outline the desired commission. Then, a simple pre-visualization image is created to agree on how the piece should look. From there, a to-scale 3D model is created to give the client a full detailed look at what the finished piece will look like. This gives the client the opportunity to make any changes or updates prior to construction. Once a final design is agreed upon the real fun can finally begin.
Pricing for each piece varies on complexity to design, physical size, and detail. As an example, the design and fabrication from scratch of a life-sized fully working fortune teller machine begins at $15,000 and can go up to $100,000 for a piece with complex functionality and premium materials such as custom cast metal hardware, glass work, and textile fabrication. A 1/6 scale model of the same project would begin at $2,500 and increase to $15,000 or beyond for complex functionality and premium materials such as brass hardware, custom glass work, and detailed textile fabrication. Shipping is determined by type of piece.
For commissioned pieces, a deposit of 50% of the total price is required to begin the project. The remaining 50% + shipping is due at the time of completion. All commissions are done under contract for the protection of myself and the client. Should the purchaser decide to cancel the order before completion, we retain the initial 50% paid.
